Zhang Xiaogang new ISO President
Dr Zhang Xiaogang has been elected ISO President for a three-year term starting on 1 January 2015, succeeding Terry Hill of the UK. Dr Zhang is currently President of Ansteel Group Corporation, which counts amongst the world's top 500 corporations. He has distinguished himself in various high level leadership positions over the years for several related iron and steel corporations during a career spanning 35 years, and has taken part in many scientific research projects, winning a number of important scientific awards. His commitment to the steel industry led him to chair and direct various iron and steel associations and committees in China. He was also Chairman of the World Steel Association, and has chaired an ISO technical committee over 13 years. During his time on the Chinese Standardization Expert Committee, Dr Zhang played an important role in strategic planning, policy making and standards research for standardization at national level.
In his message as incoming president, Dr Zhang pledged his commitment to further improving the sustainability of the world economy, environment and society. One of his priorities is to continue to improve ISO’s profile and to make ISO standards the first choice of enterprises. Another priority is to meet the challenges to fulfil the goal of “One standard, one test, accepted everywhere".
